Terms of Service

Effective: June 5, 2026

← Homepage Privacy Policy →

This is a courtesy translation. In case of divergence, the Brazilian Portuguese version prevails.

These Terms explain the conditions for using Lectorium and how we protect the local-first experience. By continuing to use the app, you indicate that you have read and agree to these conditions.

1The service

Lectorium is a local-first academic workspace for reading, annotating, writing and organizing documents. It can connect to Google Drive and Dropbox to open, edit and sync files when you request it. External connections are always optional.

There is premium content — visual themes and the Pro plan — purchasable within the app via Mercado Pago, with prices and conditions shown before any purchase, as required by art. 31 of Brazil's Consumer Protection Code. There is no mandatory recurring subscription or cloud storage operated by Lectorium.

2License to use

We grant you a personal, worldwide, revocable, non-exclusive and non-transferable license to use Lectorium for academic, research and personal productivity purposes.

You may not resell, sublicense or redistribute the service.

3Account and access responsibility

Access is authenticated via Google. You are responsible for keeping your account secure and for all activities carried out through it. Notify us immediately of any unauthorized use: [email protected].

4Acceptable use

You may not use Lectorium to:

  • Process, store or distribute illegal content, or content that infringes third-party rights, including copyright.
  • Circumvent security mechanisms of the app, of integrated APIs, or of the infrastructure.
  • Automate requests in a way that unduly overloads third-party infrastructure.
  • Engage in any activity that violates applicable law.

You are responsible for the legality of the files you process. We reserve the right to suspend accounts that violate these rules.

5Local data and risk of loss

Lectorium is local-first. Data not yet synced — pending queue changes or files in offline mode — lives in the app's local storage.

Clearing the app's local data, hardware failure, or reinstalling the operating system can cause irreversible loss of that data. Keep backups of important files in Google Drive or another synced provider.

We hold no copies of your local data and cannot recover it. Files synced with Drive or Dropbox follow the settings and policies of the account you connected.

6Paid service and billing

There are one-off purchases inside the app: visual themes and the Pro plan (monthly or annual). Payment is processed by Mercado Pago — Lectorium does not store card or bank data. Prices are shown in Brazilian reais (BRL) before any confirmation.

Once payment is confirmed, content is unlocked immediately. One-off themes do not renew automatically. The Pro plan renews on the contracted cadence; cancellation stops renewal and keeps access until the end of the paid period.

7Right of withdrawal (Brazilian CDC, art. 49)

Users in Brazil may exercise the right of withdrawal within 7 calendar days of the purchase. The process is automated: go to My Purchases in the Theme Store and click Request Refund. The amount is processed by Mercado Pago within 10 business days.

After that period, support questions should be sent to [email protected].

8Cancellation

To cancel the Pro plan, write to [email protected] before the next renewal. Access remains active until the end of the paid period. One-off themes require no cancellation.

Support regarding access, revoking permissions, or local data: same inbox, response within up to 5 business days.

9Artificial intelligence

AI features use language models, which operate probabilistically. Lectorium does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness or timeliness of generated responses.

Do not use AI outputs for critical decisions — medical, legal, financial — without qualified human verification. You assume responsibility for their use in academic work or publications.

10Third-party services

Some features depend on external platforms: Google Drive, Google OAuth, Gemini, Dropbox and Mercado Pago. The terms and policies of those platforms also apply to your use of these features. We are not liable for interruptions or changes to them.

11Disclaimer of warranties

The service is provided "as is", without warranty of uninterrupted availability or absence of errors, to the maximum extent permitted by law. We aim for high availability but do not guarantee a specific SLA on the free tier.

12Limitation of liability

Subject to the non-waivable limits of Brazil's Consumer Protection Code, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from use of the service. Liability for direct damages is limited to the amount paid in the last 12 months, if any. This limitation does not apply to damages caused by willful misconduct or gross negligence.

13Changes and termination

We may update these Terms at any time. Material changes will be announced at least 30 days in advance; continued use after the new effective date constitutes acceptance.

If the service is discontinued, we will notify you at least 30 days in advance and keep access available so you can export your data during that period.

14Intellectual property

Lectorium and its elements — source code, design, brand, icons and text — are the exclusive property of the developer. The content of your files remains yours; the license you grant us is limited to what is strictly necessary to provide the service.

15Governing law and venue

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federative Republic of Brazil. The venue of the Comarca de Aracaju, State of Sergipe, is elected, without prejudice to the consumer's right to choose the venue of their domicile, as provided by art. 101, I of the CDC.
